In June I had the delicious pleasure of shooting Minneapolis’s Taste of the Nation Hotlist at Nicollet Island Pavilion, an event benefitting No Kid Hungry as they work to end childhood hunger in America!
The party featured unlimited food and drinks from 30 of the city’s finest chefs and mixologists, and guests were given voting cards to weigh in on their favorite sips and snacks. A DJ, silent auction, Tipsy Toss, and other games ensured no attendee was bored between bites, and at the end of the night this event had raised $140,000 for No Kid Hungry – that’s 1.4 MILLION meals for kids (!!!!). As the pal who asked me to shoot this event says, “Not bad for a day’s work” (although come on Lizzie, you put your heart and soul into this event for months leading up to it and we all know it!)!
How No Kid Hungry is making a difference in Minnesota:
- 1 in 7 kids in Minnesota struggles with hunger
- Only 51% of kids who eat free/reduced price school lunch also eat school breakfast
- Only 16% of kids who eat free/reduced price school lunch also eat summer meals
- A $50 donation can provide 500 meals to kids in Minnesota
Please visit NoKidHungry.org and make a donation of any size to help end childhood hunger! And please enjoy the photos below from Minneapolis’s Taste of the Nation Hotlist knowing that I was shooting one image for every bite of food I ate while documenting this event, which I think is a pretty good ratio given the quantity and quality of culinary delights the chefs put in front of me. It became kind of a game, Feed the Photographer and Drink Her Up Too, and I was not complaining!
